Austrian households produce 206,000 tonnes of unnecessary food waste each year as a result of poor planning, lapsed expiration dates and incorrect storage. This food waste makes up 14.5% of all residual waste. On average, each Austrian household throws away 43 kg of food that is still fit for consumption.
