The Râmnicu Vâlcea wood processing plant was one of the main Romanian furniture exporters. After 1990, the plant went into decline following privatisation.
Mihai Iancu worked there as an electrician from 1971 to 2000. Metal waste was recycled by the factory, while surplus wood was used to fire the plant’s boilers. Workers also used waste material to make small items they needed, ranging from knives and interior decorations to luggage racks and television aerials.
